Reducing the cost of living
Georgians have been struggling with rising costs the past couple of years and the current “politics as usual” has made it worse. We need bold new leadership willing to advocate for Georgians’ ability to earn a livable wage, take action to stabilize utility costs, and work to fix a broken tax system that only prioritizes Georgia's wealthiest.
Georgians also pay the 4th highest power bills and 2nd highest gas bills in the country, destabilizing both homeowners and renters with unaffordable utility bills. Between 2022 – 2024 Georgia Power raised rates six times while posting a record $2.851 billion in profits in 2025 off the backs of hard working Georgians. Career Politicians like my opponent are why:
As chair of the House Energy & Utilities Committee, Don Parsons routinely blocks legislation that would lower bills. As your representative, I would've supported these bills that Rep. Parsons blocked just in the past two years:
* HB 1304 – Balcony Solar would allow Georgians to install small balcony solar systems without requiring the utility’s permission. Balcony Solar is expanding across the U.S. and is legal in numerable states, but not Georgia because of my opponent.
* HB 507 and HB 1152 – Georgia Homegrown Solar Act of 2024, and 2025 would have expanded Georgians’ access to community solar, lowering costs for renters and people living in multi-family dwellings. Community solar is routine in most U.S. states, but not Georgia.
Renewable energy is less expensive than any other generation source, but simply not as profitable for Georgia Power.
My opponent also strongly supported HB 1063. Proponents of this bill such as Georgia Power and the energy lobby claim that its intent is to protect customers from rate hikes tied to data center expansion. In reality, the bill creates the appearance of consumer protections.
Instead of prohibiting utility companies from shifting the costs of electricity grid expansions onto residential customers, It continues to leave cost-allocation decisions to the discretion of the utility, and only requiring data centers pay a down-payment before straining the residential electric grid. This bill continues the cost-shifting, to continue despite false claims that consumers will be protected.
We need leadership that works to reduce utility costs and an economy that works for ordinary Georgians instead of corporate monopolies and wealthy insiders.
